Fitting Magpie M-02 Wheels to a Toyota Hilux
The Toyota Hilux is an icon, with the current 2016+ generation proving immensely popular all around the world. However, for the Invincible X and early GR Sport models in particular, the original wheels tend to look completely lost in the wider plastic wheel arches that are fitted from factory, spoiling the look of an otherwise tough and aggressive pick-up. This is where the Magpie M-02 wheel comes in!
The M-02 is the latest addition to our Magpie wheel range, with the 18x8.5J+0 6x139.7PCD specification shown here being introduced specifically for the current generation Toyota Hilux, wide-bodied previous generation Ford Rangers and other pick-ups and off-roaders. In this post, we're going to run through the installation of our Magpie M-02 18” Wheel Package for Toyota Hilux (2016+) on a customer's 2020 Toyota Hilux Invincible X that was brought to us as a completely standard vehicle.

What really lets the original wheel setup down is the narrow width and very high offset of the original wheels. This is what causes them to look so lost within the factory plastic wheel arches.
In comparison, the Magpie M-02s are 1" wider (8.5J) and have a 30mm lower offset (+0, or a 'zero' offset). As a result, the Magpie M-02s will sit 42.7mm further out than the original setup, which is all that's needed to fill the wheel arches and provide a much more aggressive and purposeful stance.
As soon as we installed the first Magpie M-02 wheel to the Hilux in our workshop, we knew they were going to transform the customer's car!
The standard 18" tyre size on this Hilux is 265/60R18 and we decided to stick with this tyre size for the customer's new wheels. This ensures that the speedometer reading is not affected and allows for the original spare wheel and tyre to be used in case of an emergency. It also guarantees that there will be no clearance issues with the new wheel setup.
The customer elected to use BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tyres for their new Magpie wheels. These tyres are one of our favourites and are hugely popular for their aggressive aesthetics and incredible off-road performance. However, should you wish to do so, you can re-use your existing 265/60R18 tyres from your original Hilux wheels, allowing you to fit the more aggressive Magpie wheels without the expense of a new set of tyres. We can also supply this tyre size from various other brands, such as Comforser, Cooper, General and Falken.
The original Toyota wheel nuts are not compatible with the vast majority of aftermarket wheels, so our Magpie M-02 18” Wheel Package for Toyota Hilux (2016+) includes a new set of 24 black 19mm wheel nuts.
Thanks to a huge load rating of 1500kg per wheel, the Magpie M-02s are fully equipped to handle a heavily laden pick-up or off-roader, giving you peace of mind in the toughest conditions.
